Discover Chatpati Delhi

If you're in the mood for something flavorful, vibrant, and packed with bold spices, Chatpati Delhi in Franklin Park, NJ, is a must-try. Nestled in the heart of the town at 3201 NJ-27, this little gem offers an array of mouthwatering dishes that will transport you straight to the streets of Delhi, India. From street food classics to rich, comforting curries, Chatpati Delhi has it all.

The restaurant's ambiance is casual yet inviting, with a relaxed atmosphere perfect for families, friends, or even a quick solo meal. Whether you're new to Indian cuisine or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone on the menu. The menu at Chatpati Delhi is a mix of traditional Indian dishes and a few innovative twists that give you a fresh take on familiar flavors. But let's dive into the dishes that have earned this spot a reputation.

One of the standout items here is the signature chatpati, a delightful snack that's both tangy and spicy. It’s a must-try, offering crispy puris filled with a flavorful mixture of chickpeas, potatoes, yogurt, and tamarind chutney. It's the kind of dish that wakes up your taste buds and makes you crave more with every bite. It’s the perfect snack to start off your meal or enjoy with friends as you unwind.

For those who enjoy something a bit heartier, the menu features a selection of kebabs that are grilled to perfection. Whether you prefer chicken, lamb, or vegetarian options, each skewer is seasoned with a blend of spices that infuse every bite with an explosion of flavor. The juicy, tender meat paired with a side of mint chutney makes for a satisfying dish that’s hard to beat.

The curries at Chatpati Delhi are another highlight. The chicken tikka masala is a crowd favorite, with its rich and creamy tomato sauce, perfectly balanced with spices that make it both comforting and bold. The paneer butter masala offers a creamy, smooth texture with chunks of paneer cooked in a buttery sauce. It’s a vegetarian’s dream and pairs wonderfully with any of their freshly made naan breads.

Speaking of naan, don’t skip out on the garlic naan or the buttery naan. They are soft, pillowy, and slightly charred, making them the perfect accompaniment to any curry or stew. It’s the kind of bread that’s so delicious you’ll find yourself tearing off pieces just to enjoy the flavors on their own.

If you're looking for something more adventurous, try the street-style pav bhaji. This Mumbai street food classic is a spiced vegetable mash served with soft, buttered rolls, and it’s bursting with flavor. The mix of spices in the bhaji gives it an earthy richness that pairs perfectly with the softness of the bread. It's a perfect choice if you're after something a bit different from the usual offerings.

The drinks at Chatpati Delhi are also worth mentioning. Their mango lassi is a refreshing, sweet yogurt-based drink that’s perfect for balancing the spiciness of some of the more intense dishes. If you prefer something with a bit more of a kick, their masala chai is flavorful and aromatic, giving you a warm and cozy feeling with every sip.

Customer reviews of Chatpati Delhi consistently praise not only the food but the friendly service as well. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend the perfect dish based on your taste preferences. Plus, if you're unsure about spice levels, they’re more than happy to adjust it to suit your needs.

The location is another plus; it’s easy to find and offers plenty of parking, making it a convenient spot for a quick meal or a more leisurely dining experience. The prices are reasonable considering the generous portion sizes, making it a great value for your money.

What truly sets Chatpati Delhi apart from other Indian restaurants in the area is its authenticity. The chefs here take pride in using fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods to ensure that each dish is bursting with flavor. From the crispy snacks to the rich, comforting curries, everything feels like it’s made with love and care.

In addition to the great food, Chatpati Delhi often has specials or seasonal offerings that allow you to experience even more unique flavors, keeping the menu exciting and ever-evolving. It’s clear that this restaurant is dedicated to offering a diverse range of authentic Indian dishes while maintaining a high standard of quality.

  • Heard a lot about this restaurant, I found it decent restaurant. Also heard they don’t accept Tips, but they asked to pay the tip in cash ..so bit surprised. Which is fine, but hears from multiple people that they don’t take tips. Ordered few veg items and they were decent. Kati roll was not good, Dabeli was impressive at all. Best was Tea and saag and makki ki roti.

  • Went in with really high expectations after reading all the great reviews, but for me, the experience was good — just not as extraordinary as expected. The food quality was nice and fresh, though some dishes lacked the authentic punch of flavors. Tried their Chole Bhature — the bhatura was soft, fluffy, and perfectly sized, but the chole could’ve been more flavorful; it missed that spicy and tangy kick. The Shev Puri Dahi Puri had good texture and presentation, but the sweetness of the curd overpowered the chutneys and spices. The Paneer Sizzler had very soft and fresh paneer, though the overall dish tasted quite mild. The restaurant has plenty of seating, but do expect at least a 30-minute wait, even on weekdays. On the positive side, the staff was very friendly and attentive, always available to assist with orders and make the experience pleasant. Overall, a decent place to try once — great service, but the flavors could be more authentic to truly match the hype.

  • There is no shortage of Indian restaurants in NJ but we are no experts so we rely on good reviews from others. The NY Times had just featured Chatpati Delhi as one of the 50 best in the country so it was no surprise that we had to wait 1.5 hours for a table on a Saturday evening. But good food requires sacrifice so we waited. And boy, was the food worth the wait. Dishes came out fast and everything we tried had great balance of sour, sweet, spice and freshness. Most striking was the customer service. Crew was attentive, engaging with us, asking us if everything is to our liking. The owners were also very nice, even giving us free samples of the sweets even after I said I wanted to pay. Their only request was that we try them and come back. I don't think that is a hard ask as this place is now our default for Indian food. 11/10 would recommend!

  • Tried Chapati Deli in North Brunswick after reading the New York Times piece recommending it as one of the 50 great places to eat in NJ. I had the garlic naan and the chicken tikka masala with rice. Everything was incredibly tasty, flavorful, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The portion was generous, too. The service was fast and friendly. I’m definitely coming back!

  • Overall the food is generously portioned and the taste is excellent especially for the non-vegetarian dishes. The vegetarian dishes could have been a bit enhanced. They sat us down quickly which was good because at lunch time this place became very busy and that’s when we experienced an “inexperienced” staff. The food came out one by one with the naan and drinks coming out last after reminding them a few times. In fact one person in our party only ordered a “coke” and that came 2/3 of the way into our dinner (again after asking for it a few times). As I stated, overall the food is very authentic and flavorful.

  • My favorite go to place for the most authentic chaat, katti rolls, sizzlers and desserts. The staff is so attentive and welcoming. The food always great each time and atmosphere is so warm. Abhijeet is a great guy and will make sure that all are happy and well cared for.

  • Love, love, love Chapati Delhi! This is one of our regular spots because they nail the classics every time. The chats are always fresh and packed with flavor, and their drinks menu is awesome (we've tried them all!). We appreciate how welcoming they are; it's definitely kid-friendly, which makes dinner so much easier. Highly recommend checking it out
